A geofence is a virtual boundary drawn on a map. When a tracked vehicle crosses that boundary, you receive an alert. Geofencing is one of the most powerful features in any GPS tracking platform.
What Can You Do with Geofences?
Common use cases include: alerting when a vehicle leaves the company premises, knowing when a delivery vehicle arrives at a customer site, getting notified if a vehicle enters a restricted zone, and monitoring after-hours vehicle use.
How to Set Up a Geofence in Erebos
In the Erebos dashboard, go to Geofences and click "Create". Draw a polygon or circle on the map around the area you want to monitor. Give it a name, select which vehicles to apply it to, and choose whether to alert on entry, exit, or both. Save and you're done.
Best Practices
Keep geofences slightly larger than the actual area to account for GPS margin of error. Don't create too many - start with the most important ones. Use descriptive names so you know what each alert refers to.
