Everything you need to know about Erebos GPS tracking - from SIM cards and setup to accuracy, privacy, and billing.
Getting Started
Any prepaid SIM with mobile data works. A GPS tracker uses only a few MB per month, so the cheapest data plan is more than enough. Nano SIM size for most Teltonika devices. Important: disable the SIM PIN before inserting it into the tracker (put it in any phone first, go to Settings > SIM > disable SIM PIN).
It depends on your Greek carrier: Cosmote = "internet", Vodafone = "internet.vodafone.gr", Nova/Wind = "gint.b-online.gr". You enter this in the tracker's GPRS configuration. See our setup guide for the full connection settings.
The desktop Configurator (USB connection) is Windows-only. On a Mac or phone, use the free "Teltonika FMBT" Bluetooth app instead (available on iOS and Android). Connect to your device and enter the Bluetooth password: 5555. Both methods do the same thing.
Sign in at app.erebos.gr, go to Devices > Add Device, and enter the IMEI number printed on your tracker. That's it - the tracker connects automatically within a minute or two.
After powering on and configuring the tracker, the first GPS fix takes up to about 60 seconds under open sky. After that, the vehicle appears on your map automatically. Subsequent fixes after sleep are faster (a few seconds).
Accuracy
GPS accuracy is typically 5-15 meters. The route line connects raw GPS points with straight segments, so it may cut corners or wobble slightly. In urban areas with tall buildings, accuracy decreases further due to signal reflection (multipath). This is normal for all GPS tracking systems.
Even when completely stationary, GPS positions drift by 5-15 meters due to atmospheric conditions and satellite geometry changes. Erebos filters stationary points within 30 meters, but some drift may still appear. For hardware trackers, setting "On Stop" to 300 seconds (5 minutes) reduces unnecessary stationary updates.
After the tracker has been off or in deep sleep, it needs a "cold start" to acquire satellite signals. The first fix may be less accurate. GPS Sleep mode (available on most Teltonika devices) keeps satellite data warm, reducing first-fix time to just a few seconds and improving initial accuracy.
Hardware
2G still works across Greece today, but networks are gradually phasing it out. If you're buying new for the long term, choose a 4G model (like the FMC920). 2G models (FMB920, FMB900) are cheaper and work fine right now - they're a good choice if budget is the priority.
For most people: the Teltonika FMB920 is the bestseller - small, reliable, and well-priced (around 55 EUR). The FMB900 is the cheapest option (around 45 EUR). For future-proofing with 4G, the FMC920 is the best choice. See our hardware page for the full catalog.
For a permanent wired installation, we recommend a qualified auto electrician - especially for the ignition wire and to ensure proper fusing. For testing or temporary use, a 12V cigarette-lighter adapter works fine. Always use a fuse on the power line.
Yes. The tracker is your device - just move it and power it up in the new vehicle. No reconfiguration needed. It reconnects to Erebos automatically. Update the vehicle assignment in your Erebos dashboard if you want to keep records tidy.
Apps
Yes, both apps are completely free. Erebos Tracker turns any phone into a GPS tracking device - great for drivers and individuals. Erebos Pro is the fleet management companion app (live map, trips, alerts, vehicle control). For company accounts, Pro access is included with your web subscription.
Erebos Tracker = your phone becomes a GPS device (it sends its own position). For drivers and individuals. Erebos Pro = a management dashboard on your phone (view all vehicles, trips, alerts, control devices). For fleet managers. Both feed into the same Erebos platform.
The Tracker app queues GPS positions locally when there's no internet connection and syncs them automatically when you're back online. No data is lost. The Pro app needs an internet connection to load live data, but cached data remains visible.
Privacy & Data
Only you and the users you explicitly invite to your account. Every account is fully isolated (multi-tenant architecture). Erebos staff cannot see your tracking data during normal operations.
No. We are GDPR-compliant. Your location data is yours - it is never sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising. We process it solely to provide the tracking service.
Position data is retained for up to 12 months, then automatically pruned. Trip summaries (distance, duration) are kept independently. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.
Yes. Both apps have an in-app account deletion option (Settings > Delete Account). You can also delete your account on the web. Deletion cancels any active subscription, removes your data, and is irreversible.
Billing & Plans
Yes. The Individual plan is free forever - 1 vehicle, live tracking, 1 geofence, alerts, and full trip history. No credit card required. Perfect for personal use or trying out the platform.
Yes, anytime. Upgrades take effect immediately (prorated). Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period. Cancel anytime - you keep access until the period ends.
Credit/debit cards via Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). All payments are processed securely through Stripe - we never see or store your card details.
